CEDAR CITY – Local authorities arrested two suspects Sunday wanted in connection with an attempted homicide in Washington County.
According to a news release issued by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8 a.m. St. George Communications broadcast an attempt to locate on a male and female suspect. About 15 minutes later, Iron County Sheriff’s Deputy Jobe Peterson located the suspects’ vehicle south of Newcastle off Bench Road.
Other deputies responded to the scene and found the vehicle was unoccupied. A search of the area by officers and Southern Utah Aviation came up empty.
Authorities later obtained information that the suspects may be in or around Cedar City. Deputies and SUU Aviation responded and continued their search.
Peterson began working on information connected with a different vehicle owned by another party known to be connected with the suspects.
Cedar Communications and Adult Probation and Parole simultaneously began working to find associates of the suspects, the news release stated.
The owner of the vehicle was found and it was determined that the driver had transported the two suspects into Cedar City. At around noon, Peterson responded to the area of 600 W. 1450 North and spoke with the owner of the vehicle. Police determined at that time; the suspects were in the residence at that location.
Cedar City Police were dispatched to assist deputies in containing the area. Once authorities had the residence contained, K-9s were deployed into the residence, where they found the suspects hiding.
Both suspects refused to comply with orders and were apprehended by the K-9s, Lt. Del Schlosser said.
The suspects were taken to Cedar City Hospital for dog bites where they received medical care, Schlosser said. Deputies then transported the suspects to the county line where Washington County Sheriff deputies took custody.
Charges are pending with the Iron County Sheriff’s Office and Cedar City Police Department at this time.
Authorities in Washington County have not yet released any information. This article will be updated once more information is released.
Utah Highway Patrol, ICSO, APP&P, Cedar Communications and SUU Aviation all assisted in this incident.
