CEDAR CITY – Cleopatra took her rightful place among a collection of many other Shakespearean characters in the Pedersen Shakespeare Character Garden including Hamlet, Julie, Henry V, Falstaff and King Lear.

The statue, created by the renowned sculptor, Dennis Smith of Alpine Studio, was unveiled Monday as the newest addition to the garden. The event was held on the anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth and death. A poet, actor and playwright, Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 and died 52 years later on the same date.

The unveiling event included several speakers including Smith, SUU President Scott Wyatt and Shakespeare Founder, Fred Adams. Entertainment was provided by the Playmakers.

The statue was donated by Mountain West Small Business Finance that has helped to support the Shakespeare Festival for 15 years.

The Festival is preparing for the 2018 season that runs June 28 through October 13. Plays are The Merry Wives of Windsor, Henry VI Part One, The Merchant of Venice, The Foreigner, Big River, An Iliad, Othello, Pearl’s in the House, and The Liar.
